A SERIES of special events to celebrate the coronations of King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla will take place in Glasgow over the holiday weekend.
While the focus is on London, where the royal procession to Westminster Abbey will be watched by thousands on the street, Glasgow has official events to mark the occasion.
Tonight a sold-out Lord Lieutenant’s Coronation Concert takes place in the City Chambers in the banqueting hall with music, song and Coronation anthems led by Jamie MacDougall, BBC Scotland’s ‘voice of classical music’, along with the RSNO Chorus, Glasgow Chamber Orchestra and musicians and singers from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

On Saturday, the Coronation, from Westminster Abbey, conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, will be livestreamed to Glasgow Cathedral.
Also on Saturday, there is a King’s Coronation and Victory in Europe Parade at the Veterans Monument in Knightswood, hosted by the armed forces charity, SSAFA.
A Coronation in the Park event is taking place at Robroyston Park with children’s rides and inflatables.
An autism friendly event in the Recreation Hall at Quarrywood Avenue will take place as well as a royal afternoon tea and entertainment in the Residents Centre.
The main official civic event is on Sunday in George Square where Lord Provost Jacqueline McLaren will lead the Coronation service.

Beginning at 9.45am, there will be the official Coronation parade then a procession to Glasgow Cathedral for a service of thanksgiving.
A number of churches in the city are holding special events on Sunday to celebrate the Coronation of the King.
Springburn Parish Church is hosting a Celebration Coronation lunch after the morning worship.
Williamwood Parish Church will have a Coronation Celebration following the morning service.
Clincarthill Parish Church is holding a Coronation Big Lunch.
Merrylee Parish Church will have a special Service of Celebration and lunch for friends and family of the congregation and local community.
Carmyle and Kenmuir Mount Vernon churches will host a Coronation Lunch after the morning service.
