Inside Glasgow fashion designer's antique gothic flat

Fiona Kennedy has spent two years perfecting her unique digs to fit in with her “weird” vibe that helps her feel creative.

The 28-year-old collects antique treasures at car boot sales and online as well visiting her neighbour, The Barras Market, for unusual finds.

Sticking with dark and bold colours, Fiona leans into her maximalist vintage style by featuring original art pieces, a tiger print rug, and a standout green leather sofa.

She is now daring others to “experiment” with their home decor instead of playing it safe, and explained why it is important for her to keep things “eccentric”.

Fiona said: “When I first moved in it was all grey carpets and white walls, that stressed me out because I don’t like blank walls, I need colour.

“I don’t really like modern furniture and glitter walls are actually my biggest fear.

“I’m not into the ‘live laugh love aesthetic’ at all, I prefer a much weirder vibe.

“I want to make it more eccentric, I think some people like to play it safe when it comes to their homes, but I don’t want to.

“It is great to experiment with stuff, you can just try and paint stuff a bold colour and always change it back if it doesn’t work.

“My job is very creative, so I look for inspiration in my surroundings which means it is important for me to have a colourful eccentric space at home.”

Fiona is a first-time buyer and has been working on her one bed flat since March 2021.

She also works in marketing and has her own fashion brand, KENNEDY, which also follows her retro original style.

As well as picking bargains up at the Barras Market she also has her very own stall there with own self designed merchandise.

Opening up about her inspirations, Fiona said: “The Barras Market is on my doorstep, so I go there a lot to find stuff, I also use eBay a lot for antique finds.

“On eBay people don’t always know what they are selling so you can get a good deal, in antique shops you have to barter a bit.

“To find stuff that fits my theme I have just been wandering about markets and car boot sales to find unique bits.

“I’m not religious but I have a lot of religious antiques in my place as well.

“For inspiration I really love Dita Von Teese's home interior, her house is amazing.”
