A neonatal nursing team at a Glasgow hospital has been named the best in Scotland.

The staff at the Princess Royal Maternity at the Royal Infirmary were declared Team of the Year at the Scottish Neonatal Nurses Group conference.

They were recognised for providing the “highest-standard of patient-centred care”.

Susan Heron, senior charge nurse, said: “We’re all blown away by it all, but I’m so pleased for the whole team here, they deserve it for all of their hard work, especially over the last few years with the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“To be named the best team in Scotland by our peers means so much too, it means a lot that they recognise the work that’s going on here at the PRM to look after not only the babies in our care, but their families too. The team are so proud and I’m proud of them.

“This award is for our ongoing work around patient and family centred care, it’s a recognition of the culture we have created here and the amazing feedback we have been getting from families.”

“They have continually demonstrated our family-centred care approach and have received positive feedback from families.

“The PRM provides state-of-the-art equipment for mothers, babies and families and dedicated team across all departments work extremely hard to provide the highest standard of family-centred care possible.

“The work of the neonatal team encapsulates this approach perfectly and we are very proud of each staff member.”

The award is another success for the city’s health staff after the Glasgow Royal Infirmary was named Scotland’s top-ranked hospital in Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals league table.
