A CYCLIST has died after being 'hit by a van'.

Emergency services were called to the A806, Initiative Road, on the approach to Lindsaybeg Roundabout in Kirkintilloch at around 10.35am yesterday (June 9) following a crash involving a van and a cyclist. 

The 50-year-old male cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 62-year-old driver of the van was arrested in connection with road traffic offences. 

He has been released pending further enquiries. 

Police are now appealing for anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward, especially those with dashcams who were in the area at the time.

Sergeant Adnan Alam, of Glasgow Road Policing Unit, said: "I am appealing for anyone with information regarding this incident to contact us.

"This is a busy road, and we know there were other road users on Initiative Road at the time of this road crash.

"Anyone that has not already spoken with, or contacted police is asked to make contact with us.

"In particular, I would ask any motorists with dash-cams who were in and around that area to check the footage as it may have captured images that could assist in our investigation."

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 1118 of June 9. 

The road was reopened around 6.05pm after crash investigations were carried out.
