GLASGOW’S only LGBTQ+ rugby club is set to swap their studs for stilettos when they take to the stage with a hit drag show to celebrate Pride month.

The Glasgow Raptors will host a fundraising event on June 30 after a sell-out debut show last year.

The House of Raptor: A Rugby Meets Drag Extravaganza will see twelve of the club’s players undergoing a full drag transformation, and for one night only, exchanging their rugby kit for glamorous gowns to take part in a competitive variety show.

The 12 drag performers will be competing to succeed the contest’s inaugural champion and the current reigning queen, known as Greta Hunberg, will be returning to pass on the crown.

Hosted by and featuring performances from Glasgow drag royalty Geezah Gobble, Ziggi Battles and Ann Phetamine, the evening will showcase the broad range of hidden talent in the Glasgow Raptors rugby team including comedy, lip-syncs, K-pop and Bollywood-inspired routines.

Andrew Fry, the club’s social secretary, said: “We’re really excited to be bringing our show back after a great debut last year. With our rugby players strapping into high heels in the name of fundraising for our club, this really is a drag show like no other.

“Our performers have all been hard at work over the last few months, practising their lifts, kicks and splits, ready to dazzle the audience at our event.

“We’re also honoured to be joined by three of the stars of Glasgow’s drag scene who will be leading the night’s entertainment, as well as delivering showstopping performances of their own.

“We can’t wait to show off all the hidden talent the Glasgow Raptors rugby team has to offer”.

Rounding off Pride Month celebrations at the Slay nightclub in Glasgow’s city centre, the drag extravaganza aims to raise funds to support the development of the club, which has recently established a women’s rugby union team and a mixed-gender touch team.

This follows a successful season for the club, which saw the men’s union team reach the semi-finals of the UK-wide Hadrian’s Cup, one of the largest annual LGBTQ+ sporting events in the country.

Next season, the Glasgow Raptors will welcome inclusive rugby teams from across the UK to our city to take part in the first ever Celtic Cup tournament.

The weekend-long event will see the team provide our famous Glaswegian hospitality to players from all corners of the country who will be battling it out on the rugby field to lift the inaugural trophy.
