Primary students are in tune with their emotions as they are set to create a song about the benefits of talking to people.
An NSPCC-led project, Together for Childhood Govan, has partnered with pupils at St Saviour’s Primary School and The Glasgow Barons music charity to co-create a song about emotions.
For the past year, the Together for Childhood Govan project has been working with teachers at St Saviour’s Primary School as they look to build the pupil's emotional resilience as well as deliver mindful sessions to help the children understand their thoughts and feelings.

P5 pupils and singer/songwriter Evie Waddell from The Glasgow Barons started the project earlier this month to co-create a song which can be used as a resource in schools.
Brian Tracey, Headteacher at St Saviours Primary, said: “The staff and pupils gained so much from the deliveries from the team and we hope this song will help to support the important work they do and will benefit many other children in the future.
“When Jo first mentioned the idea of co-creating a song with The Glasgow Barons to support the Together for Childhood lessons for younger children we were very keen to get involve”
Jo Grace, a children’s services practitioner at Govan Together for Childhood, added: “When we teach the children about emotional resilience we tell them we’re going to talk with them about their ‘feelings’.
“At the start of every session, we ask the children how they feel today by choosing from different emojis. We also ask them to map where they feel things on their bodies because so many of us can be disconnected from that.
“We have a mental health video that we use with the older children, but it wasn’t suitable for the younger ones and when we looked at songs about ‘feelings’ many of them said anger is red, happy is yellow and sad is blue. We encourage the children to choose their own colours for how they are feeling, so we wanted to create a song that reflected that.”
The song was performed by the pupils at the Baby Strings and Choir Concert at Govan and Linthouse Parish Church on Friday.
