A man was allegedly evasive to police about the last place he saw the teenage sister he is accused of murdering.

Connor Gibson, 20, was said to have been contacted hours after Amber Gibson was reported missing.

He is claimed to have told an officer that he got into a disagreement with Amber and left her crying.

PC Scott Anderson stated that Gibson was evasive and contradictory during the conversation when it came to the location of the argument.

The constable added that Gibson also refused to tell him the name and address of a friend he claimed to have later visited before returning home.

Gibson is on trial charged with the sexual assault and murder of Amber at Cadzow Glen in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, on Friday November 26 2021.

PC Anderson, 46, told jurors in his evidence that he made a follow-up phone call to Gibson in the morning of November 27.

The court was earlier told that Gibson had spoken to police several hours before but his memory was "hazy."

Prosecutor Richard Goddard KC asked the officer what Gibson told him about the previous night on the call.

He stated: "He said that he met Amber about 9.30pm on the Friday and they walked around the Hamilton area.

"They took selfies and put them on Snapchat.

"They had a disagreement later on about 10.30pm regarding their foster parents.

"When he left Amber, she was crying."

Mr Goddard asked the witness if he questioned Gibson on the location of the last sighting.

He replied: "Yes, I asked him where he was...he was evasive, avoiding the question at times.

"He said he did not know the area that well."

PC Anderson added that Gibson was "quite contradictory at times" in regards to the Hamilton area and landmarks.

Mr Goddard asked if Gibson told him the type of environment they were in the last time he saw her.

He replied: "No."

Jurors also heard that Gibson returned home muddy claiming to have fell in a ditch.

The officer stated that he asked Gibson where the fall had taken place.

PC Anderson added: "He said it happened at the rear of Hamilton Accies' football ground.

"I asked why he was there and he said he was running from a friend's house in the Whitehill area."

The officer claimed that he asked Gibson for information such as a name and address about the friend.

PC Anderson: "He said he didn't want to divulge it as he didn't want anyone else involved."

Co-accused Stephen Corrigan is charged with breach of the peace and attempting to defeat the ends of justice. He had lodged a special defence of alibi.

It is claimed Corrigan found Amber's body, but rather than alert police, he inappropriately touched her and then hid her remains under bushes and branches.

This is said to have occurred on an occasion between November 26 and 28 2021.

The trial, before judge Lord Mulholland, continues.
