A MAJOR gym has announced it will close its doors next month.
Sports Direct Fitness has sent an email to members at its Milngavie gym stating it will close permanently on Sunday, September 3.
It said it had been forced to close due to the cost to maintain the facilities, which include a swimming pool, spa and sauna and free weights amongst other gym equipment.

The email, that was sent earlier today, read: "We are writing to inform you that regrettably Sports Direct Fitness Glasgow Milngavie will close permanently at the end of the day on Sunday, September 3 2023 and will not be re-opening.
"Despite our attempts to keep the gym trading, sadly the costs to maintain the facilities has made it impossible for us to continue."
It continued: "We want to take time to thank you for your support over many years.
"We are continuing to open new clubs under our Everlast Gyms brand and as such hope to see you in the future at one of our sites."

Speaking about the closure, local resident David Gibson said: "It's a shame
"The pool facilities were excellent and there were a number of classes set up for swimming lessons and that might mean kids that were using the pool will have to travel further afield."
Gym members have been advised that the direct debit payment collected on August 1 was the last membership collection, and they have been told all items will need to be collected from lockers by September 3.
