'Loving their gin': Glasgow pub welcomes UCI cyclists

Denise Taylor of the Lincoln Inn on Great Western Road explained her boozer has been full of competitors of the UCI Cycling World Championships over the last week due to its proximity to many of the events.

The bar sits next to Knightswood's Glasgow BMX Centre which has been hosting multiple events and Denise revealed many of the cyclists have been in for a food refuel - and a pint.

She said: “They are all having pints.

“Pints, gins, the Canadians - they are right into their gins.

“It was just the language barrier with some was a bit difficult, but we got there.

“We’ve been standing Google earthing where they live.”

Denise introduced a BMX-themed food menu in honour of the championships coming to the Knightswood area and explained the pub has even seen people involved in the championships use it as a washroom.

She added: “We’ve had Polish, we’ve had Americans, we’ve had Canadians in for food and drinks.”

“Some of them are staying in caravan parks, some of them in the city centre, some of them in Loch Lomond.

“They are everywhere, they are all over the place.

“There was actually one guy who was sleeping in our car park at the back in a campervan for a couple of nights, and then just coming in and using our toilet.

“Which was fine.”

Medals have also made it to the Lincoln, with racers showing of their gold silver and bronze to the locals.

Denise finished: “Our regulars that sit in the lounge have just been chatting away to all of them.

“I’ve found a couple of times, cyclists that were sitting at a table have ended up standing at the bar with the regulars.”
