THE closure of a wedding venue in Glasgow has left a number of couples in uncertainty ahead of their upcoming nuptials.

The historic North Rotunda, which is home to popular food and drink venue Cranside Kitchen, has closed their venue according to landlords The Forrest Group.

Situated in the city’s Finnieston, North Rotunda has hosted a range of events including weddings, civil partnerships and other celebrations following an extensive refurbishment completed in 2021.

The business is operated by entrepreneurs Toni Carbajosa and Kevin Campbell of The Rotunda Group. But the building they are housed in was acquired by the Forrest Group in June. The landlords say that they reduced their rent ahead of the closure.

The confirmation by the landlord of the closure comes after desperate brides flooded social media looking for advice over their upcoming nuptials. They claim they were told that their wedding at the Rotunda would not go ahead, some with just weeks of notice.

One said: "Does anyone have any advice my friend got a call today to say her wedding venue has [closed] (Rotunda). She's meant to get married in four weeks."

The Cranside Kitchen website also does not currently allow reservations between Sunday, September 3 and April 1, 2024.

A spokesperson for the Forrest Group said: "While Forrest Group acquired the Rotunda in June, we were happy for Cranside to remain as tenants and continue operating for a further 12 months.

"We do have plans for the property long-term, however as yet no formal proposals have even been submitted for any changes to the Rotunda.

"An agreement was reached with the tenants to remain with a hefty reduction in rent as a gesture of goodwill on our part, however this week a decision was made by them to close their business and depart the North Rotunda."

The North Rotunda, Kevin Campbell and Toni Carbajosa have been contacted for comment.

Forrest Group also owns the neighbouring Radisson RED.

They have said they will do their best to help those whose weddings have been affected by the closure.

The spokesperson continued: "The operation of Cranside’s business is entirely their affair and as landlord Forrest Group have no control over any bookings or agreements they have with their customers.

"However, we understand some bookings including weddings will be impacted by the decision of Cranside to close this weekend.

"While bookings are with them, we are concerned about the stress caused to couples whose weddings will be affected, so will help all we can in accommodating such bookings at Radisson RED subject to availability.

"We have already accommodated one wedding and are in discussions with several others.

"However, it would be the responsibility of the couples to secure refunds from Cranside and pay for new bookings at Radisson RED or any other venue.

"We hope this clarifies the situation.

"If you have been impacted by the closure of Cranside and wish to discuss moving your wedding or event to Radisson RED, please contact Jill at reservations.glasgow@radissonred.com"
