It also comes after Scotmid chains in Glasgow raised an impressive £295,000 following the retailer’s year-long charity partnership with Guide Dogs UK.

The funds raised will make a significant difference by training two guide dog mobility specialists and three habilitation specialists.

Lizzie spoke about her job as she said: “This year has all been a huge learning experience.

"I’ve learned so much, from how a vision impairment not only affects a person’s mobility, but also their lives and inclusion, and how there is a real risk of physical & social isolation and loss of confidence.

“Before Guide Dogs, I had absolutely no experience of working with dogs before and I’ve learnt so much in my first year about early training with dogs and positive reinforcement training.

“Suffice to say that I feel very fortunate and privileged to be working in such a specialised field and meeting some brilliant people, from staff to volunteers and not least the clients with whom we are working to create successful long-term partnerships.

"I have loved seeing how impactful a difference has been made to guide dog owners' lives and feel honoured to be part of some brilliant partnerships."
