A new youth employment programme aimed at making Glasgow City Council a more attractive employer to people under 30 is being designed.
Councillors were asked to support the strategy which will run from 2023 until 2027 and looks to attract more young people into working for the council’s services.
The report has highlighted challenges that are impacting its ability to fill vacancies.

Officers have discovered meeting the needs of its younger workforce – those under 30 - needs particular attention.
As it stands the average retirement age of the council workforce is 62 years old and in the run up to 2027, it is estimated that nearly 5000 employees will reach the average retirement age.
Research also shows that 32% of those under 30 leave the council workforce in the first year of employment and of those remaining, 82% leave within three years which could be the result of temporary contracts.
The council is now working to be an attractive employer to young people by promoting job stability and the development of health and wellbeing support.
