Hibernian have followed through on their promise to take "swift action" against any fans identified mocking the Ibrox disaster after the weekend's game against Rangers.

Vile messages mocking the 1971 tragedy, which led to 66 deaths, were scrawled across seats in the away allocation at Ibrox.

The writing appears to have been daubed on seats with green chalk or marker and was discovered by Light Blues chiefs after their 4-0 victory.

Stickers were also placed on seats showing an image of Stairway 13 with the message: "Stairwell Thirteen - it's the greatest sight that I have ever seen".

And reportedly at least one perpetrator has been identified according to Edinburgh Evening News who state that a fan has been banned "indefinitely" from Hibs home and away matches.

The local report cites club insiders who have confirmed the ban has been dished out after the supporter was identified.

The Easter Road side are also continuing to investigate the away section for other offenders.

In a statement on Saturday, the club said: "Hibernian FC is aware of the intolerable graffiti and stickers found in the away end at Ibrox today and condemns the behaviour of the individuals that were involved.

“The club will work with Rangers to identify those responsible and will take the most serious action possible against anyone involved.

“If any Hibernian FC supporter has any information that could assist the club to help identify these individuals, they should contact club@hibernianfc.co.uk and the information provided will be dealt with in the strictest of confidence.”
