A CLYDEBANK couple who both worked in Singers have been enjoying a visit from the town's Provost as they celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary.
Alec and Christine Campbell marked 60 years together on October 26 and greeted Provost Douglas McAllister on the day who decided to pay them a surprise visit.
The pair were married in 1963 in Our Holy Redeemers Church, with Alec coming from Linnvale and Christine hailing from Whitecrook.
And Provost McAllister admitted it was fun to listen to their memories and their secret to married bliss.
He told the Glasgow Times: "It was really lovely to visit Alec and Christine and to meet their family.
"They have such a welcoming family home.
"It really was my privilege to offer them my congratulations on the occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary and, if my calculations are correct, having married on 26 October 1963, they have enjoyed 21,915 days of married life together!
"It was lovely to hear their memories over the last 60 years, and I offered them my best wishes for many more happy years together."
Alec, 83, was brought up in Livingstone Street, residing in the old tenements, and Christine, 80, was brought up in Brown Avenue in Whitecrook.
The duo have four children, Stephen, Linda, Gordon and Colin and they have seven grandchildren - Clare, Andrew, David, Kirsty, Grace and twins, Olivia and Sophie.
One of their sons, Gordon, is now a policeman in Auckland, New Zealand, where he lives with his wife and children.
Alec and Christine have lived at their Linnvale home since 1970 and their children attended St Eunan’s Primary School and St Andrew’s High School in Clydebank.
Both worked in Singers with Alec going on to work at the Western Infirmary Hospital and Christine employed at the Boulevard Hotel and the post office in Clydebank and Milngavie.
