Work on a new classroom block at Bishopton Primary School has been scheduled to begin in the early part of next year.
A contract for the construction of the permanent building will go before councillors at a recent finance, resources and customer services policy board.
If given the green light, the agreement – which is worth around £590,000 – will see City Gate Construction (Scotland) take on the project.
A report to the board said: “Renfrewshire Council requires a competent and suitably experienced contractor for a full turnkey solution to design and construct on site, a new permanent building to accommodate two primary classrooms and associated cloakroom, storage and toilet facilities for pupils and staff.
“Services to the new building are to be linked to the existing main school building.
“Works also include all associated civils and utilities works and installation of external learning canopies.
“The new building will replace an existing modular classroom block at the same location within the school playground, which is to be demolished.”
A date of possession for the site has been listed as January 29 in the report. The works are expected to be completed within 24 weeks of that point.
However, any changes to those dates would be confirmed in the local authority’s letter of acceptance.
We previously reported that at the end of September, the council applied for planning permission for the project, which, it has insisted, will be completed in time for the new school year in August 2024.
Last month, David Woodrow, chair of Bishopton Community Council, claimed the schedule it is working to could be “tight”.
At the time, he said: “The planning application has just been lodged. There won’t be a spade in the ground until the others have been demolished.
“It’s all got to happen in 10 months. That’s tight. I think it might be a bit premature.”
But, a council spokesperson responded: “The new classroom block will be a permanent facility, containing two classrooms.
“It will provide an enhanced learning experience for pupils, with a covered outdoor learning space, and improved internal facilities.
“It will be installed in time for the new school year starting in August 2024 and we have now updated parents directly.”
