A MAN has been charged after smashing his motor into a wall of a clinic in Barrhead at the weekend.

It comes after officers were reported to a one-car crash at around 1.05pm on Sunday, November 3, on Carlibar Road in the town.

999 crews attended the incident where the driver, an 81-year-old man, along with a 68-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the car, were taken to hospital.

Following it, the driver was charged with an alleged road traffic offence.

Pictures from the scene show the car's airbags exploded following the smash with the building.

Jacqui Cooney from the clinic said: "I have no idea how it happened."

The 53-year-old, who is a nurse, also revealed no one was luckily in the building during the time, however, the wall now needs to be taken down and repaired following the incident.

While Jacqui is unsure what actually happened, she understands the people in the vehicle were not seriously injured.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "We were called around 1.05pm on Sunday, December 3, to a report of a one-car crash on Carlibar Road, Barrhead.

"Emergency services attended and the driver, an 81-year-old man, and passenger, a 68-year-old woman, were taken to hospital as a precaution.

"The driver has been charged in connection with a road traffic offence."
