More than 200 people filled the banqueting hall of the City Chambers for this year's Glasgow Community Champion Awards.
Here is a round-up of pictures, by photographer Colin Mearns, and reaction from the finalists, judges and winners.
STACEY QUINN AND JOSH CLARKE, TURF COMMUNITY PROJECT: “Even just being here and getting recognition for the work we do, and seeing the work done across the city by so many other great groups, is fantastic.”
MICHAELA COLLINS, PEEK: “We have been fortunate enough to be included in these awards many times, and it is always lovely to be part of it. It’s really exciting to be here.”
COLIN MACKIE, FRIENDS OF SOUTHERN NECROPOLIS: “It’s a wonderful night, the grand final of Glasgow’s Community Champion Awards. It’s great to be part of all the positivity in this city and we’re really proud of our young volunteers who have made it this far. They are great role models, like all the young people here tonight.”
LORD PROVOST JACQUELINE MCLAREN: “This event is a chance to shine a light on all the people who make Glasgow such a great city and to celebrate their civic mindedness and civic pride. The Possilpark rappers were a particularly memorable entry this year, they had us all in fits of laughter and that’s really the essence of Glasgow and these awards. People with good hearts and a good sense of humour, always ready and willing to help others.”
DIANE SPECK, NEONATAL NURSE: “We’re really proud to have been nominated, and it’s great to be here and to see so many amazing groups from all over the city.”
SHARON STEWART, PARAMEDIC AND FUNDRAISER: “I was absolutely blown away to be nominated and to get to the grand final – I was just gobsmacked. There are so many fantastic people here tonight.”
BRUCE REID, TRADES HOUSE GLASGOW DEACON CONVENER: “Trades House Glasgow is delighted to provide sponsorship for such a deserving initiative. It highlights the depth of talent from all around our city and they are all so deserving. I wish them continued success. It’s been a particular pleasure as Deacon Convener to be part of the process.”
DAVID MCCLELLAND, MERCK: “I am in awe of the finalists and their community spirit, appetite for helping others and capacity for selfless acts. It is inspirational. Judging was such a difficult task, and I know all of my fellow judges agree. You really wanted to reward every one of them, such was the quality of the nominations. I found the Senior and Young Awards the toughest ones to judge this year. Every nominee was quite simply amazing.”
SOPHIE RAMSAY, SINGER: “It’s been really fun to sing at this amazing event, and to meet so many incredible people.”
CATHY MCGRATH, tenant and vice-chairperson of Wheatley Homes Glasgow: “We’re delighted to, once again, support the Glasgow Times Community Champion awards. Every year the judges are blown away by the high standard of entries and the amazing work of charities and volunteers across Glasgow. This year is absolutely no different. We’re all about creating ‘better homes, better lives’ and we want to recognise Glaswegians and other people who play their part in making a real difference in our communities.”
AMY MURRAY, CROFT VISITOR TEAM MEMBER: “So many people don’t really understand what we do for families at Barlinnie, so it’s great to be given the chance to raise awareness of the support we can provide.”
MICHELLE MCMANUS, EVENT HOST AND SINGER: “There is so much to be proud of in Glasgow, and that’s down to everyone here in this room. I feel honoured just to be in the same room as all of these superstars. What would we do without them?”
