A TEENAGE girl fled to a motorway for safety after she brutally suffered at the hands of her thug partner.

The 16-year-old girl was knocked unconscious by Liam Hannigan, 18, in Glasgow's Baillieston on July 10, 2022.

Hannigan repeatedly punched and kicked the girl following an argument close to the M8.

The stricken victim escaped and flagged down cars after she knelt down on one of the lanes.

The girl was assisted by members of the public before she passed out again.

First offender Hannigan pleaded guilty today at Glasgow Sheriff Court to assaulting the girl to her severe injury.

The court heard the pair were in a relationship for five months prior to the incident.

An argument broke out between them when Hannigan became aggressive towards the girl.

Prosecutor Lauren Sangray said: "He grabbed her by the hair, pulled her to the ground and dragged her across the ground.

"He repeatedly kicked her on the body as well as punched her to the head and body.

"The girl was briefly knocked unconscious during the attack."

She was able to run for safety to the M8 motorway after running through bushes.

Miss Sangray added: "A member of the public driving on the motorway saw the car in front swerving and saw the girl on her knees on lane one.

"The witness stated that she looked frightened and looked like she was flagging down cars."

A witness pulled over to the hard shoulder and approached the girl who was "inconsolable and crying".

The girl told the witness: "He is coming to get me" before she hugged and thanked them for stopping.

She was noted to have a bruised lip, swelling, cuts and bruises.

Miss Sangray said: "She said Hannigan did this then hyperventilated and briefly became unconscious."

The girl was taken to hospital where she was further found to have a suspected rib fracture.

Hannigan was traced meantime by police and arrested.

Philip Cohen, defending, told the court that his client is an Amazon employee who now has his drinking "under control".

Sentence was deferred pending background reports by Sheriff Joan Kerr until next month.

Hannigan, of the city's Easterhouse, had his bail continued meantime.
