Trying to figure out how to blow out and style my hair has been a persistent thorn in my side for 29 years.
I fail miserably at attempts to recreate the voluminous and glossy tendrils that hair stylists can effortlessly blow into my hair.
Hours spent on Hairtok in vain, I was eager to take up the opportunity to try out the new Shampoo Bar in the Lush flagship store on Buchanan Street.
The Shampoo Bar does what it says on the tin: it's a blow-dry bar where shoppers can have their tresses washed and styled exclusively with Lush products.
Full disclosure, I have very sensitive and reactive skin. My scalp is prone to itchy episodes and dermatitis.
The stylist begins with a consultation, asking me if I have any allergies and what my hair concerns are.
I tell her I am not a big fan of sodium lauryl sulfate (thanks to Queer Eye's Jonathan van Ness) and in the cold winter months the ends of my fine hair get dry.
We decided on the Soak and Float shampoo bar (£9), meant to calm an irritated scalp with antiseptic cade oil and soothing rose oil. For the conditioner, I chose Power, meant to repair and smooth locks (£10).
The treatment begins with a shampoo and condition complete with a head massage.
I wince as we near the end of the shampoo, my hair taking on the dreaded squeaky clean sensation that only surfactants can deliver.
After a relaxing head massage, I'm relocated to a salon chair for my blowout.
The stylist was incredible - she walked me through each product she was using as we chit-chatted over the roar of the hair dryer.
After just over an hour the style was complete, my hair bouncing off my shoulders in voluminous curls.
Getting your hair done is a nice treat and for Lush fans, this would be one worth booking if you have an event in the calendar.
My only gripe is that shortly after the salon session my scalp developed an irritation that lasted over 24 hours.
The first ingredient in the shampoo bars is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. The ingredient, composed of several non-volatile alcohols, is one of the most sensitising cleansing agents used in beauty products.
For those with tougher scalps, the shampoo bar is a great eco and pocket-friendly option and lasts for 80 to 100 washes.
The Lush wash and self-style is £25 and a Lush wash and finish is £40 and includes the shampoo and conditioner used.
Both treatments are available at Lush Cosmetics Glasgow City, 98 Buchanan St, Glasgow G1 3HA.
