A GLASGOW business owner will open his store on Christmas Day for local people who are feeling lonely.
Jordan Trainer, who owns Plantique in Partick, says he decided to open the shop after some customers mentioned they will be alone this Christmas.
He explained: “I know a lot of the customers and have got quite friendly with them and over the last month or two a few of them mentioned to me that they weren’t doing much on Christmas Day and are going to be a bit lonely.
“So I said to them I would open my shop for a couple of hours and I thought it would be a nice idea for local people that maybe don’t have anything planned to come and have a chat.
“I just thought it would be nice and maybe if a few people turn up they’ll make friends or I’ll make some new friends as well.”
He continued: “Although it’s a lovely time of year, it can be tough for others and people feel they have no one to talk to because everyone is preoccupied celebrating.”
On the day, Jordan plans to open the store from around 11am to 2pm and will offer some festive snacks with tea and coffee and Christmas music.
Jordan, from Cambuslang, says he decided to open on Christmas Day to give back to the community for all the support they have shown him.
He previously ran Green Living and Partick Mini Market before he opened houseplant and homeware sore Plantique around a year ago.
The 24-year-old said: “Because I’ve got a business in the local area, obviously customers come in and support me so I thought it would be nice to something to help other people in the area and from a business point of view it’s nice to say thank to people.
“I’ve had a few businesses and I’ve been in Partick since lockdown so I’ve gotten to know the local area well and I really love the area.”
The idea has gone down well with customers with some telling Jordan they’re “really excited” for the day.
He said: “They said that would be great and they’re looking forward to it.
“Maybe if it’s going to be a long day for someone it might just make the day a bit shorter.”
For anyone who wishes to attend Plantique on Christmas Day, there is no need to RSVP with Jordan saying “everyone’s welcome.”
Plantique is located at 286 Dumbarton Road, opposite Partick Library.
