Pest control staff have been called to around nine cases of rat infestation per week in Renfrewshire this year, new figures show.
Paisley, Johnstone and Renfrew made up the top 10 areas for rat problems during 2023, as of November 20, with staff called out more than 450 times to deal with vermin.
Ferguslie, in Paisley, was the worst street in Renfrewshire for rat-related callouts, with 10 of the 15 visits to the ‘hotspot’ taking place in May.
Residents in the town's Netherlee Road, Bargarron Drive, Rowan Street, Gallowhill Road and Renfrew Road also had to deal with multiple rat issues this year.
Johnstone's Thorn Brae and Cartside Avenue were included in the top 10 streets for rat-related callouts, along with Paisley Road, in Renfrew.
The data, released following a Freedom of Information request, shows that pest control staff in Renfrewshire had to deal with over 680 callouts, with rats by far the most common problem.
Paisley's Netherlee Road ranked the highest overall for all pest control callouts, with staff dealing with rats, mice, wasps and beetles.
The new figures only include visits made by council staff and do not take into account those made by private operators.
People are able to report pests online using a form on the council's website.
