A Drumchapel care home has cause for celebration after it received a five-star rating during a recent inspection.
Crannog Care Home, located on Bayfield Terrace, was praised by the Care Inspectorate for delivering person-centred care and support that “improved people’s life experiences”, its “experienced and relatively stable” workforce, and for promoting a “homely, positive atmosphere” throughout the service.
The report, published on January 8, follows an unannounced visit from the care watchdog on November 30.
It states that one relative told inspectors that their loved one’s time in Crannog Care Home had “significantly improved their well-being and family relationships”.
They added: “After many difficult years, I feel like I have [person’s name] back. We have interactions I thought might never happen again, which is priceless.”
Inspectors go on to note that the service had improved its approach to activities and stimulation for residents.
This included people having access to regular activities, making use of the communal garden, and frequently attending events in the community.
The report states: “We spoke with a group of residents who told us they had been to local cafes and restaurants, social clubs, and several music and theatre productions in Glasgow.
“These experiences had improved their wellbeing, stimulation, and confidence. People who did not want to participate in communal activities had one-to-one visits from staff and enjoyed reading, music, and pet therapy together
“This ensured that all people, including those with complex needs, had stimulating experiences.”
The care watchdog also highlighted the home’s staff development day which is a full-day event bringing workers together to discuss the service, feedback from relatives and residents, and to generate ideas on how the service could improve.
Inspectors said this was an example of inclusive practise and enhanced staff morale resulting in "positive changes in the service with new activities and innovative approaches to care being introduced".
The report concluded by adding that there have been no complaints upheld since the last inspection.
