TEACHERS who are “making a difference for all children” at a Kirkintilloch school have been praised by inspectors.

The Education Scotland team said the staff at Oxgang Primary used “highly effective approaches to develop children’s and parents’ knowledge and understanding of their wellbeing” and added: “All staff have a detailed understanding of children’s individual circumstances and wellbeing needs. They use pupil equity funding effectively and partnership working creatively to achieve positive learning outcomes for children.”

The report also commended the “strong leadership” of the headteacher who is “well respected by staff, children, parents and partners” and added: “She is leading and managing the direction and pace of change very well, supported ably by senior leaders.”

Inspectors praised the “positive relationships across the whole school community which are based on the school values” and said: “Children across the school are happy and respectful. They learn and achieve in a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment.”

Two areas for improvement were identified and discussed with the headteacher and a representative from East Dunbartonshire Council.

The school was advised to “continue to develop and embed consistent approaches to learning, teaching and assessment across the school” and to “continue to develop approaches to planning and checking the effectiveness of support for children. This will help staff to raise attainment further in literacy and numeracy.”

Acting headteacher Sarah Muotune said: “The whole team is delighted to have received such a positive inspection report, which details the hard work and commitment of staff, families, and pupils to ensure Oxgang Primary is a nurturing environment which tailors learning opportunities to meet the needs of every child within our school.

“We will continue to build on our strengths.”

East Dunbartonshire Council’s convenor of education, Councillor Lynda Williamson, said: “This is a wonderful inspection report that celebrates the hard work and achievements of the entire school community.

“From the school leadership to the families and the pupils themselves, everyone plays their part in making Oxgang Primary a school to be proud of.

“The report highlights the positive relationships, the equity of learning opportunities, the successful planning and evaluation, the nurturing environment and the many other approaches taken to encourage wellbeing and attainment.  I’d like to congratulate the headteacher and everyone at Oxgang Primary School on a very, very good report.”
