Police swarmed Broomhill Drive after finding suspicious items at a property during a planned search.

The Glasgow Times attended the scene this afternoon after the incident kicked off today at around 12.30pm.

We saw how worried bystanders watched as detectives evacuated the community and closed off the road while investigations continued.

Meanwhile cops were battered by rain as they stood protecting the police cordon for safety reasons.

Police refused any access to the road on Broomhill Drive and even redirected fire crews who attended the scene.

It is unclear at this stage what suspicious items were found inside the property which sparked the probe.

It is understood that Glasgow City Council set up an Emergency rest centre for evacuated residents.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "As a precaution, Broomhill Drive between Dumbarton Road and Broomhill Avenue in Glasgow is closed after suspicious items were found within a property following a pre-planned search.

"Several homes have been evacuated and a cordon put in place. Please avoid the area at this time."
