A Drumchapel care home resident celebrated her birthday in style as she turned 104.
Minnie Campbell was joined by friends and staff at Almond View Care Home on Wednesday to mark her incredible milestone.
music was treated to a live performance from a singer at her birthday party as well as enjoying a slice of cake that featured a picture of her face on it.
The 104-year-old who lovesMinnie has been a resident at the Drumchapel Place care home for the last five years, living independently until the age of 99.
She is the oldest at Almond View and regularly enjoys taking part in activities held at the home such as karaoke.
Peter Cook, 79, a friend of Minnie's who has known her for more than 40 years, told the Glasgow Times she is “doing great” and is very happy.
He said: “Her 100th birthday was big obviously but we’re four years on now and she’s still doing great.
"I didn’t know what to expect for her birthday party, the staff did say they were going to put something on but I hadn’t been expecting a live singer.
“I’ve known Minnie for forty-odd years, it’s a long story how we know each other. She was brought up in Quarriers alongside my mother-in-law.
“So they’ve been friends all these years. I’m a decorator so I’ve done all of the houses that she’s lived in, that’s how far back we go.
“Minnie had been living on her own until the age of 99 but she had a bad fall. She is very happy here and the staff who look after her are great.”
Minnie was born in Edinburgh on February 21, 1920. She was brought up in Quarriers Children's Home and left at the age of 14.
One of her favourite things in life is the army. Minnie worked as a cook in the army at the beginning of the World War II.
Peter, who lives in Cathcart, explained that he is trying to get more information on Minnie’s service.
He added: “A big thing in her life is the army. I’ve been trying to look into it to see if I can find anything else out but I haven’t had much luck so far.
“All I have is a medallion with a number on it but it’s not easy to trace. You go online and it takes you from website to website.
“She said she just loved that part of her life. She also likes music and loved her holidays. She went on bus holidays but one of her favourites was Venice.
“What the secret to a long life is, I don’t know but it’s definitely working.”
Happy birthday, Minnie from all of us at the Glasgow Times.
