A charity match in honour of Lee Rigby is set to take place this weekend with a current Rangers coach set to make an appearance.
Bars for Bears Legends will take on Lee Rigby Foundation FC on Sunday, March 3 at 1pm at Renfrew FC’s New Western Park in Renfrew.
The game is free, with those attending encouraged to donate any cash if they can upon entering the stadium.
Lee’s parents, who founded the Lee Rigby Foundation and look to help bereaved families going through a similar situation that they went through, said that they are looking forward to attending the game.
Lyn Rigby, Lee’s mum, said: “Myself and husband Ian are as always looking forward to coming up to Scotland.
“The support we get from Bars for Bears and the Rangers family is amazing.
“We’re proud of all the boys in the Lee Rigby Football team, they are a credit to Lee’s memory.
“The work we do at the foundation is our lifeline to keeping our son’s memory alive.”
Lee Rigby was a serving soldier who was attacked and killed on a busy street outside Woolwich barracks in London on May 22, 2013.
Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale were later found guilty of the murder which was fuelled by extremist beliefs.
The match in Renfrew will see a get-together of ex-Gers players such as Andy Little, Kyle Hutton and Charlie Miller - with current Rangers first-team coach Alex Rae also making an appearance.
Other ex-pros including Brian McPhee and Jose Quitongo will help make up the team.
Suzanne Oz, founder of the Bars for Bears Facebook page, says that some of the soldiers who served with Lee will be making nearly a 10-hour drive to play in the match this weekend.
She said: “We are now approaching the third year that Bars for Bears have welcomed the Lee Rigby lads to Renfrew.
“They are an amazing bunch of lads, some making a drive of nine hours to play. Most are still serving soldiers with various regiments too.
“Myself and chairman John never take for granted the time and memories we get to make with our hero ex-Rangers players.
“But the most rewarding thing is seeing the happiness and help that Bars for Bears and Rangers legends create together.
“We are just fans trying to help other fans and our motto is that making memories brings more wealth than making money.”
John Ogilvie, Bars for Bears chairman, said: “Growing up supporting Rangers it really is a dream come true to share special moments with players I've supported from the stands helping us to make money for such amazing charities.”
