One of the racist killers of Kriss Donald could go free from prison later this year.
Daanish Zahid could get parole soon despite his earliest date of release being 2027.
The 40-year-old has spent half his life in prison after being part of the gang that brutally murdered the Glasgow schoolboy in 2004.
The innocent 15-year-old was abducted, stabbed 13 times, covered in petrol and set alight as part of a revenge plot 20 years ago today.
The Bellahouston Academy pupil had asked his mother if he could take the day off school as he didn't feel well.
At the same time, five men Daanish Zahid, Imran "Baldy" Shahid, his brother Zeeshan "Crazy" Shahid, Mohammed "Becks" Mustaq and Zahid Mohammed were cruising the area in a stolen Mercedes.
They were looking for a white victim to send a message to a rival gang after having a fall out in a nightclub the previous night.
Kriss was targeted and forced into a car near Kenmure Street before being driven to Dundee and back then murdered by the gang.
Now his distraught family have been told that Zahid is eligible for ‘limited access to the community’ – which could include work placements – to ‘test’ his suitability for possible release, which could happen later this year, reports the Daily Mail.
It will be up to the Parole Board for Scotland to decide whether he is ultimately freed from prison.
We previously reported how a vigil for the schoolboy was also supposed to go ahead today but was cancelled amid fears it could cause trouble.
The family of Kriss Donald requested that the planned event to commemorate the 20th anniversary of his murder would not go ahead.
Former English Defence League boss Tommy Robinson was set to join Kriss' loved ones at the memorial bench on March 15, 2024.
But a post from Robinson’s X account later stated: “You may have noticed the recent video of Tommy speaking to the family of Kriss Donald is no longer available. There is a good reason for this.
“Since the publication of the video and the petition Kriss’s family have been extremely stressed, which is understandable given the 20th anniversary of his brutal murder is only days away.
“It is also understandable given the fact that one of his unrepentant killers will be released soon, they are scared.
“So, although unfortunate (but understandable), the silent walk and vigil for Kriss has been cancelled at the request of his family.
“We ask you to understand and respect the family’s wishes at this very difficult time, as we have.”
