Lecturers took strike action at Glasgow Clyde College demanding fair pay and job protection.
Picket lines were erected at the Cardonald campus this morning with Further Education Lecturers Association (EIS-FELA) members carrying signs saying “don’t fail colleges”.
They believe college lecturers should have received a pay uplift at the beginning of September 2022.
Many educators claim their pay sits well below the levels of cost of living pay awards set by current public sector pay policy.
EIS-FELA members have been engaged in industrial action since the middle of February and have already taken a day of national strike action this month.
If no agreement can be reached, a rolling programme of strikes will begin on Tuesday, April 16 with several colleges engaging in strike action each day for 14 days.
Protesters also have plans to deliver a report card to the First Minister, appraising his efforts on his commitment to education.
This follows targeted action by Fife College and Dundee and Angus College which sit within the constituency areas of the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Jenny Gilruth and the Minister for Further Education, Graeme Dey.
A Scottish Government spokesperson said: “It is for the college unions and employers to negotiate pay, terms and conditions, not the Scottish Government.
“While we respect the right of trade unions to take industrial action, we remain concerned about the potential impacts this action will have on students. That is why Ministers are encouraging both sides to come to a resolution and bring this action to a close.”
