A SCOTTISH beach has some of the “bluest water” in the world, according to new research.

According to a study by CV Villas, Europe is home to the world's bluest seas – beating the likes of Bora Bora and the Maldives.

Experts at the travel firm took unedited Google map screenshots of 200 beaches around the globe and used a colour dropper tool to find the RGB code of each body of water.

This was then cross-referenced with the RGB code of the world’s bluest shade of blue (YInMn Blue) – which was declared the bluest shade of blue in 2016 by Oregon State University.

The researchers then worked out which locations’ water was closest to YInMn Blue, crowning it the world’s bluest shade of blue.

The research revealed that Pasqyra Beach in Albania claims the top spot. Known around the world as "Mirror Beach" it is considered to be a highlight of the Albanian coastline.

A Scottish beach made the list too – with Troon Beach in Ayrshire taking 11th place. The beach, a popular choice for Glaswegians driving to the coast, offers stunning views across to the Isle of Arran and is well worth a visit.
