IT’S a "painful admission" for Iain Stirling that "maybe Glasgow is a bit of a better night out" than his home city of Edinburgh.

The Bafta-winning comedian and iconic voice of Love Island is embarking on his biggest stand-up tour to date called Relevant with a stop at the King’s Theatre on Wednesday.

"Glasgow’s always my favourite gig," he admits

"What Glasgow is to me is incredibly genuine. You can do whatever the hell you want really as long as it is you.

"When I first went to Glasgow as this boy from Edinburgh living in London, I’d try and be this ‘laddie’ guy because I thought that’s what Glasgow would like and they could smell it off me it was b******s.

"And then I come up now like ‘I’m from Edinburgh, you all think we’re posh, we’re not’ and I think that’s why I have such a fun time up there."

Glasgow Times:

Relevant will see Iain talk about fatherhood and his "social inabilities" as well as stories about his time working in TV.

"I just want something that’s funny and a nice night out for everyone," he says.

"I touch on fatherhood and particularly how it feels like, societally speaking, dads get a bit of an easy run at it and mums are held to a ridiculously higher standard.

"I also talk about finding it stressful in public settings, I’m always worried I’m in someone’s way."

Iain decided to touch on these subjects after he "ran out of external factors to talk about" following almost 15 years of doing stand-up.

He explained: "The only place left to go in inwards so you’ve got to look at your own psyche and why you are the way you are.

"Also, I feel like I’ve always talked about myself, in the current climate you never know what’s going to offend, whereas I’m lucky because the target of all my stand-up is me."

Iain says it feels "great" to be embarking on his biggest tour yet and feels fortunate for the support from fans which has allowed him to do so.

He said: "I started gigging in Scotland and doing The Stands was really lovely, but now to be doing the King’s Theatre for the second time is mental.

"I never thought I’d be that sort of person and as I’ve got older I’ve learned to appreciate it a lot more and as a parent, you realise what a pain in the arse it is to get out the house.

"For somebody to go to all that effort to come and see me is really cool."

So, where does Iain like to go when he’s in the city?

"I don’t spend a frightful amount of time in Glasgow but when I’m gigging it’s pretty much Mother India for dinner, King’s Theatre for the show and I do love that place, I’ve seen so many great things, I saw Kevin Bridges there back in the day," he says.

"And then it will be The Stand afterwards for some drinks."
