THE Loch Lomond Highland Games have been cancelled.
The annual event, which attracts more than 9000 people each year, had been due to take place at Moss O' Balloch Park on July 13.
However, on Wednesday morning the games' committee published a post to social media stating that they have had to make the "difficult decision" to cancel this year's event.
It is noted that budget cuts - agreed by West Dunbartonshire Council (WDC) on March 6 - had "significantly" impacted the funding needed to hold the games.
A statement from the event's committee reads: "It is with great disappointment the committee of Loch Lomond Highland Games has made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s games, which were due to be held on July 13, 2024.
"The recent announcement from West Dunbartonshire Council regarding funding cuts, affected our budget significantly to hold the games this year.
"Although this is disappointing, we are now planning and looking to secure additional funding to bring back the highland games in 2025."
The announcement comes after our sister title the Dumbarton Reporter reported in March that WDC had agreed to reduce its financial commitment to the Loch Lomond Highland Games.
The local authority had previously provided £14k in funding to the event's committee however this has now been stopped.
Infrastructure and staffing were however still going to be provided by the council to support the running of the games.
