A GUIDE dog owner is hosting a fundraising event to support people living with sight loss.
Every April, the charity Guide Dogs asks its supporters to take part in the Make Every Cuppa Count event to support people living with sight loss across the UK.
Deborah Robertson, along with her guide dog Rye, is joining the annual fundraiser by organising the Glasgow fundraising group’s event on Sunday, April 21, at Bishopbriggs Guide Hall.
Deborah will be bringing people together for a tea, coffee and cake event from 1pm to 3pm.
She said: “We will have treats kindly gifted by Greggs, Lees of Scotland, Tunnock's and Thomas Muir Coffee Shop. Paul and Maci's will also have home-baked goodies for sale.
“Our volunteers will be there, along with plenty of our four-legged guide dog friends. Everyone is welcome and we hope to see many locals there.”
Guide Dogs works to breed and train working dogs, creating unique and carefully matched partnerships that provide life-changing support. The charity aims to give more people with sight loss the confidence and skills they need to live the life they choose.
It costs just under £55,000 to support a dog from birth to retirement. The funds raised by Deborah and the Glasgow fundraising group will support Guide Dogs to help people with sight loss now and in the future.
Sandi Johnson, community fundraising development manager at Guide Dogs, added: “Deborah is a strong force in the local community and is always happy to share her story.
“She is extremely knowledgeable as she has been a guide dog owner and volunteer for a long time. It’s helpful to be able to draw upon Deborah’s knowledge and lived experience of how sight loss can impact people and how guide dogs change people’s lives.
“Deborah is great at chatting to people and answering any questions about sight loss, guide dogs and her eye condition so she can share her knowledge and awareness, making the community more inclusive for others living with a vision impairment.”
