Facebook Messenger has revealed a new update which it said will make "your private conversations and connections even better".
There are four new features that Messengers said it has aleady began to roll out including sending photos in high-definition and using QR codes to add people on the platform.
Messager, revealing the new update, said: "Messenger elevates your Facebook connections by creating a safe and authentic space for private and meaningful conversations.
"Whether it is sharing a Reel you saw with your best friend, going deeper with people you met through a Facebook Group or Marketplace, reacting to a Story your friend shared, or simply reaching out to say hi – Messenger brings you closer to the people and interests that make your world.
"Continuing on the drumbeat of elevating your messaging experience, we’re excited to start the rollout of a number of new sharing and connection features to make your private conversations and connections even better."

New updates being rolled out on Facebook Messenger
There are four features being rolled out as part of the new Facebook Messenger update:
Send high-definition photos
The new feature will allow users to send "clearer, crisper" photos in their messenger chats.
How to send HD photos on Messenger
Sending a HD image on Messenger is simple.
Messenger explained: "To send an HD photo, select an image from your chat composer, then turn the HD toggle on and tap Send.
"Tap on additional photos to send multiple in HD, then tap Send."
Create shared photo/video albums
The Messenger update will also allow users to create photo and video albums to share with friends and family.
This feature has not been rolled out yet, but Messenger said it will be available in the coming weeks.
How to create shared album
To create a new album in a group chat:
- Select multiple photos from your chat composer
- Tap 'Create album'
- You can also long press a photo in the chat and tap 'Create album
- To add to an existing album, tap 'Add to album'
If you want to rename the album, Messenger said to:
- Tap 'Album'
- Tap the three dot menu
- Tap 'Edit name'
- Confirm new album name
Messenger added: "From there, everyone in the chat can view, add, delete and download pictures and videos from the album.
"To locate the album at any time, tap on your group chat name then tap Media."
Add new connections using QR codes
This new QR code feature will mean users will no longer have to type in someone's name or number to add them on Messenger.
Now all you have to do is scan a persons QR code or send them a link to yours to connect.
How to connect on Messenger via QR code
Messenger explained: "To start a message thread with a new connection, go to your Settings and tap the QR code icon at the top.
"From there, they can scan your code using their device’s camera, or you can share a link by tapping Share."
Send bigger files from your phone (up to 100MB)
You no longer have to rely on emails to send large files with the new update now allowing you to send files of up to 100MB via Facebook Messenger.
How to send a large file on Messenger
All you have to do to send a large file is - when you’re in a Messenger chat, tap the + button and then select a file up to 100MB.
It's as easy as that.
All major file formats are supported, including Word, PDF and Excel, Messenger added.

More new Facebook Messenger features 'coming soon'
More new features will be "coming soon" to the communication platform, Facebook Messenger revealed.
It said: "We are forever working to make Messenger a platform for self expression, private and meaningful conversations and connection — so that you can connect with the right people on Facebook, friends, family, and beyond, in the ways you want.
"Stay tuned for more features coming soon."
