A MAN scammed someone known to his family out of £870.
Craig Mortimer pretended to the woman that he would carry out electrical work at her home in Cambuslang.
The 42-year-old requested cash upfront to buy materials knowing he would not be purchasing any.
The crime took place between July 2022 and August 2022 and whilst he was on bail for another matter.
When appearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court from custody last week, his lawyer revealed that his family had paid the money to the firm with the intention of it being repaid to the woman.
The defence solicitor added: “Because of the embarrassment this caused, they assisted him to pay it back.
“He’s in prison but due to be released.”
Sentencing was deferred for a social work report to be carried out.
Mortimer, from Rutherglen, will appear back in court later this month.
Sheriff Diana McConnell told him: “There are funds available to compensate the complainer in this case. That will very much work in your favour.”
