Communities in North Glasgow have revitalised a garden for disabled residents.
The project is by the Glasgow Tool Library, a Maryhill-based tool sharing network, who applied their DIY expertise to create an accessible garden space for the disability charity Possobilities.
The charity supports disabled people of all ages to gain independence, skills, and community connections in Possilpark.
This transformation, funded by bodies such as the National Lottery Community Fund and the Glasgow Wellbeing Fund, is the newest in a series of community projects undertaken by the library.
Following the successful reconstruction of the Shakespeare St Youth Club last October, the library chose Possobilities from more than 15 charity applications.
Volunteers designed and built accessible garden furniture and planted sensory flowers, with the library providing materials and tools to create wheelchair-accessible picnic benches that will enable visitors to socialise in the reimagined space.
Dane Redmond, assistant development coordinator at Possobilities, said: "It was great to see that spirit of people coming together to help our charity: Glasgow Tool Library’s work means a huge amount to us and all our members, we can’t thank them enough.
"With the new adaptive furniture, there is now more versatility for our members to enjoy meals together and take part in different outdoor games. This will help encourage more people to get involved in activities or just enjoy the atmosphere.”
The new furniture has been used for outdoor knitting classes and the charity plans to use it for outdoor dinners and games for its members during summer.
Chris Strachan, co-founder of Glasgow Tool Library, said: “We had a great time in the sun at Possobilities.
"Glasgow Tool Library volunteers shared their skills and developed new ones, working together to support a great charity that’s doing a massive service to their community.”
Andrea Tyrer, volunteer at Glasgow Tool Library, said: “It was a pleasure to help brighten up the outdoor space at Possibilities.
"The other volunteers built the planters and I helped fill them with colour. Hopefully the people who use the centre will be able to enjoy many happy days sitting outside in the fresh air.”
