Stabbing of Brian Gough on Saracen Street treated as murder

Brian Gough was attacked on Saracen Street at around 5pm on Saturday, May 18. 

The 27-year-old, who is from Springburn, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he later died.

We reported earlier that the victim had been named locally, with tributes appearing on social media and at the crime scene near where a large tent had been erected.

Flowers and a Rangers top were left with notes dedicated to 'Big Brian'. 

Friends also took to social media to share their heartbreak over his death.

One said: "RIP Brian. Such a cruel world - so young and had his full life ahead of him. Thinking of all the Gough family at this sad time."

Another said: "Very shocked and sad about this news. Brian was a lovely boy. My thoughts are with the Gough family."

Now police have confirmed that following a post-mortem examination, they are treating Brian's death as murder.

Investigations are underway and detectives are still particularly keen to trace two men.

Both are described as being white and in their 30s.

One wore a light blue top and black shorts, while the other was wearing a white top, black shorts and black trainers.

Police are also urging anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage in the area at the time to get in touch, as unbeknownst to them, their footage could have captured something vital to the investigation. 

More officers will remain in the area while enquiries are carried out and anyone who is worried can speak to them.

Detective Chief Inspector Graham McCreadie: “Our thoughts are with Brian’s family and friends at this very difficult time, and we will continue to support them as our enquiries continue.

“Following a post-mortem examination, Brian’s death is being treated as murder and extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“We are still keen to trace two men. The first man is described as white, in his 30s, wearing a light blue top and black shorts. The second man is white, also in his 30s and wearing a white top with black shorts and back trainers.

“I would again ask anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything they believe may assist our enquiries to get in touch.

"If you have dash cam footage, private CCTV or doorbell footage, please let us know. You may have captured something that can assist us.

“As our extensive enquiries continue, I want to reassure people there will be an increased police presence in the local area and anyone with any concerns can speak to these officers.”
