CLAD in sleek black satin, hair slicked up into a vicious curl, with her mouth twisted into a sneer, this is Elaine C Smith as you have never seen her before….
The star of TV comedy hits Two Doors Down and Rab C Nesbitt has taken on an altogether darker role for her latest performance - the evil Childcatcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
The first pictures of her on stage as the famous character have been released.
Elaine is relishing the challenge. In a recent interview with the Glasgow Times, she said: “It’s great, isn’t it?
“Playing a baddie for a change….it’s very against type. Which is why I agreed to do it. I realise how terrified people are by this character.”
The actor, stand-up, singer, panto star and writer joins Adam Garcia as Caractacus Potts, Emmerdale star Liam Fox as Grandpa Potts and Ellie Nunn as Truly Scrumptious in the musical, which comes to the King’s Theatre in Glasgow from August 27 to September 8.
Elaine is sharing the role of the Childcatcher with EastEnders star Charlie Brooks, and they are the first two women to play the character in the long-running show.
Based on Ian Fleming’s timeless story for children and later made into the famous 1968 film, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang features unforgettable songs by the Sherman Brothers including Toot Sweets, Hushabye Mountain, Truly Scrumptious and the Academy Award-nominated title song, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
