A 14-YEAR-OLD who shone at Glasgow musical theatre classes has won a major UK final.

The Glasgow Times revealed on Friday that Aaron McGregor was the only Scot to make it through in the junior category of West End Calling in London.

The national competition aims to find the next generation of West End stars.

On Monday, he was crowned champion after a hotly-contested event with 25 other young stars aged between eight and 16, at the Arts Theatre in London.

Judges – the top industry professionals Freddie King, Emma Kingston, Jodie Steele and Lauren Drew – gave Aaron a standing ovation after his performance of Michael In The Bathroom from Be More Chill.

One judge commented: “Broadway for you.”

A stunned Aaron said: "I don't know what to say. I'm shocked, but so happy that I have won.

"The talent was so high and I can't believe the judges picked me. Thank you to everyone for their support."

Aaron, who lives in Fife, has been attending Movies To Musicals classes in Glasgow since 2019.

Founder Ross Gunning said: “Aaron sailed through to the London finals, having already impressed judges at the Edinburgh and Manchester heats, and everyone was really impressed at the final.

"His performance created a real buzz in the audience, too."

Aaron already has a string of impressive roles under his belt - he featured on the hit drama series Outlander, and has recently worked with Oppenheimer’s Cillian Murphy in the animated movie, Kensuke’s Kingdom.

He starred as young Gavroche in the UK and Ireland tour of Les Miserables and played Flynn in Princess Mirror-Belle on TV.
