Around 250 students got a glimpse into railway careers at a national rail contractor's event in South Lanarkshire.

The third annual 'The Future of Rail' event was hosted by QTS Group at their headquarters last week.

The company, working with partners including Scotland’s Railway, AmcoGiffen, and Clarke Telecom, hosted a variety of events designed to engage and inspire students to learn more about roles and potential career paths within the rail industry.

Students participated in STEM activities, experienced machinery demonstrations, and interacted with career and supplier stands.

Among the schools that attended were Strathaven Academy, St Andrew’s and St Bride's High School, and Calderglen High School in Lanarkshire.

QTS Group also welcomed the Developing Young Workforce Hub, East Ayrshire SL33.

The following day was geared to an industry audience, with demonstrations of plant machinery, drone technology, and overhead line capabilities.

The day also featured discussions around dealing with inclement weather on the railways by a panel of rail industry experts.

Andy Steel, managing director of QTS Group, said: "Our Future of Rail event provides a fantastic opportunity to engage with young people and inspire them to consider rewarding careers in the rail industry.

"Tackling the skills shortage is a priority, and events like these are hugely important in helping to produce a qualified rail workforce fit for the future.

"We must continue to innovate and adapt to ensure the continued success of our industry.”

Additionally, QTS Group also offers apprenticeships and traineeships to encourage young people to join the industry and has launched a graduate development programme and its award-winning Rail Skills Academy.
