A MAN on drugs who crashed into four cars had the incident described as a "doozy" by a sheriff.

George Burton, 46, smashed into the vehicles near Glasgow city centre on September 7, 2021.

Burton initially reversed into a car and drove off before he collided with a kerb on the opposite side of the road.

He went on to smash into three further cars and caused his own vehicle to spin 180 degrees as a result of the final collision.

Sheriff Patricia Pryce stated after the narration of events: "The dangerous driving charge is a doozy."

David McCaig, defending, replied: "It is a serious matter, there are no two ways about it."

Burton pled guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

He also admitted to a later offence of smashing a communal close door with a metal pole.

Sheriff Pryce tagged Burton for 27 weeks keeping him indoors between 7pm and 7am.

He was also put under supervision for 18 months, disqualified from driving for 20 months and fined £100 for the damage to the door.

The court heard that Burton initially reversed his car into another and continued to move off.

The driver of the other vehicle tailed Burton who then went on to the other side of the road and hit the pavement.

Burton again drove on before he collided with a second car which caused the wing mirror to be taken off.

Prosecutor Ramsay Cunningham said: "Burton then struck two parked cars which moved some distance from their original position.

"One of the cars were shimmied from the road and collided into a pub."

The hearing was told that there were people outside the pub at the time.

Mr Cunningham added: "Burton's vehicle as a result of the collision turned 180 degrees facing the wrong side of the road."

Police attended and found Burton behind the wheel who was agitated as well as incoherent.

He passed a roadside breath test but admitted that he had taken a couple of valium tablets.

The hearing was told of a later incident when Burton smashed the rear door of a close in the city's Kelvinhall in the early hours of the morning.

Burton, who was found near a metal pole, later told officers that he lost his key and had buzzed the property to alert his sister for two hours.
