A good chippy quickly becomes an institution in Glasgow and is one of the country's most traditional yet long-standing takeaway choices.

We recently asked our readers to tell us where they think does the best fish and chips in Glasgow and we received hundreds of suggestions.

Here are some of the most popular ones.

Salt & Vinegar 

This Shawlands spot was named several times by our readers as the best chippy in Glasgow.

As well as the classic dish, Salt & Vinegar serves a range of choices including burgers and curries all with a seafood inspiration. 

Blue Lagoon

A reliable choice with over a dozen locations in Glasgow, including at Glasgow Fort, our readers love Blue Lagoon.

"Chips are amazing," said Yvonne Rankin.

Mary Fergus said: "The Blue Lagoon has never disappointed me."

Leo's Chip Shop

Established in 1987, Leo's in Baillieston is one of the longest-lasting chippies in the city.

Jill Price said Leo's was the "best ever", while Cinzia Perri said: "The food is fantastic". 

Sharon Gair added: "Leo's in Baillieston is amazing and also does gluten-free."

Merchant Chippie

This award-winning fish and chip shop on High Street received multiple votes from our readers who said it's the best they've ever tried.

Dionne Thomson wrote: "Merchant Chippie [in] Glasgow city centre without a doubt the best there ever is."

Robert Martin agreed: "That place on the corner of Ingram Street and High Street is pretty good."

Veronica Low replied: "That's my favourite."

Brian Holding added: "The Merchant Chippy, top-notch."

It seems a popular choice, as it was named Scotland's Best Fish & Chips at the Scottish Italian Awards.
