Mohit said: “We are very proud to be pupils in Holy Cross Primary. We help Mrs Gray, the headteacher, in leading the school and making decisions on how to make our school even better.”

The inspection report praised “the highly effective, caring leadership of the headteacher and senior leadership team” and added: “Together, they empower children, parents and staff to lead and make genuine and valuable contributions to the life of the school and beyond.”

The school’s “strong sense of community” impressed the Education Scotland team, who commented: “This contributes to the warm, positive and nurturing relationships across the school. As a result, children learn in a happy and inclusive community of faith and learning.”

The report described pupils as “welcoming, friendly and polite” and added: “They are proud of their school, keen to learn and engage very well with their learning activities.”

Inspectors also said: “Staff …work very effectively with each other and collaboratively with partners to promote wellbeing, inclusion and achievements. This work is underpinned by a commitment to professional learning.

“The whole staff team’s very effective approach to support children new to English language to learn to speak English confidently in a short time… supports children to settle into school, progress in their language learning and make friends quickly.”

Two areas for improvement were identified and discussed with the headteacher and a representative from Glasgow City Council.

Inspectors advised the school should “build on recent improvements in attainment in literacy and numeracy to continue to improve attainment for all children, in these areas and across the curriculum” and “continue to ensure that all children are appropriately challenged and become leaders in their learning.”

Headteacher Claire Gray said: “We are absolutely delighted with our recent inspection report.

I’m particularly thrilled for the whole school community in how we have been recognised for the nurture, care and support we offer our children and families and how this is reflected in our school values and school motto, Curamus – We Care.”

She added: “A key message through the report is the combined effort of staff, parents, pupils and partners in ensuring a positive and collegiate ethos of teamwork in the school.

“This can only be a good thing for the local community and for the families we serve.”
