A THUG involved in an armed robbery where a shopkeeper had a knife put to his throat has been jailed for 32 months.

Brian Watt, 33, and an accomplice pounced on Connor Gallacher at Scotmid in Glasgow's Budhill on March 31, 2024.

The other individual put the blade near Mr Gallagher's neck and said: "Open the till or I will slash your throat."

The two attackers made off with £668 before Watt attempted to rob a second convenience store that day.

This time Watt made off empty handed.

He pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to a charge of assault and robbery as well as an attempted robbery.

The court heard Watt and another man attended the Scotmid with his accomplice jumping over the counter.

Mr Gallagher attempted to leave the premises but was blocked off by Watt who pushed him.

The unknown man dragged Mr Gallagher by his fleece and held a knife to his neck stating: "Open the till, or I will slash your throat."

A total of £668 was removed from the till and Watt put the cash in his trouser pocket.

Watt then also pulled out a blade and said: "Be quiet, be quiet, the police are going to come."

Mr Gallagher later screamed to colleagues that he had been robbed.

Watt had also tried to rob another convenience store that day in the city's Lochend.

He entered the store while intoxicated, purchased a chocolate bar and left.

Employees noticed Watt return to the store on the CCTV wearing the same clothes and a face cover while in possession of a knife.

Prosecutor Lauren Sangray said: "He climbed over the counter to steal items and shouted 'just give me what I f***ing want'.

The panic alarm was pressed and police attended.

Watt was later identified by CCTV and he was arrested.

Jim McParland, defending, told the court that the dad of three lost his job as a delivery man in March this year.

The lawyer said: "This caused marital difficulties through financial pressures and his partner was arguing with him at the time.

"He left the family home and began to engage with alcohol again."

It was revealed that Watt has a previous conviction for possessing knives.

Sheriff Daniel Kelly told Watt that the offences were "serious matters" and that a custodial sentence was appropriate.
