Aldi Scotland’s Supermarket Sweep challenge has returned - and one winner has raised £1275.08 for a foodbank.

The popular Supermarket Sweep challenge recently visited Strathaven where it was won by resident Nicola Alexander.

She nominated her husband Christopher to participate in a five-minute trolley dash for charity on May 30.

Along with a trolley-full of Aldi goodies, Christopher found a hidden inflatable meaning Aldi Scotland double the total value of their items and donate the money to the chosen charity, Loaves & Fishes Foodbank.

She said: "We are absolutely thrilled to have been able to raise such a total for Loaves & Fishes Foodbank, it was fantastic meeting Lesley from the foodbank at the sweep and hearing more about the vital work they do for the community.

"Finding the inflatable flamingo was a great bonus, being able to double our total for Loaves & Fishes was super, and our daughter loved getting to pick a special buy!"

Lesley Smith, Loaves and Fishes Foodbank director, said: "We are incredibly grateful to Nicola, Christopher and Aldi Scotland for this generous donation to Loaves and Fishes Foodbank.

"It will make a significant difference in our efforts to support those in need within our community."

Graham Nicolson, regional managing director, Aldi Scotland, said: "We know that the Aldi Supermarket Sweep is a firm favourite with shoppers across the country, so we were delighted to bring it back for another year.

"Congratulations to Nicola and Christopher who managed to raise an incredible £1275.08 for Loaves & Fishes and snap up a whole load of Aldi treats for themselves."
