Pupils at a North Lanarkshire school were taught how to be safe around construction sites by a local homebuilder.

Staff from Persimmon West Scotland visited St Barbara’s Primary School, in Muirhead, which is located along the road to its Royale Meadows development.

Laurence Watson, construction manager at Persimmon West Scotland, and Claire Eadie, customer care manager and local parent, gave pupils an insight into house building and highlighted the importance of maintaining a safe distance from construction zones.

The children were gifted copies of 'Cones and Building Homes', a children's book commissioned by Persimmon.

The book serves to educate kids about health and safety while also introducing them to the construction sector.

Laurence said: "Health and safety is a top priority for us, which is why it was great to have the opportunity to visit St Barbara’s and talk to pupils about what happens on a construction site and the importance of staying safe.

"The pupils were a credit to their school, and I hope the books we donated will inspire some of them to think about a career in construction in the future."
