Last night, a huge fire broke out in Linwood as emergency services scrambled to help - here is everything we know so far.

Residents in Renfrewshire and some parts of Glasgow noticed huge plumes of smoke in the sky.

Police, firefighters and SEPA (Scottish Environment Protection Agency) officials were called to the scene, sometime before 10pm.

Burnbrae Road closure

 

Nearby Burnbrae Road and a local cycle path were shut by officers at the Linclive Interchange last night.

It is understood that this closure is still in place.

Police Scotland warned last night: "As a precaution, local residents are asked to remain indoors and keep windows and doors closed for the time being."

What is Enva?

The force has also confirmed that the fire broke out within the Linwood Industrial Estate.

Enva has now confirmed that the incident took place at their WEEE Solutions e-waste facility and said emergency services are still on site.

Enva is one of the companies based here.

It is "a leading provider of recycling and resource recovery solutions, with locations across the United Kingdom and Ireland".

Burnbrae Road in Linwood, Paisley is currently closed at the Linclive Interchange due to an ongoing fire within the Linwood Industrial Estate.

We reported last night that the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent 10 fire engines to the scene.

The force advised: "Motorists should keep windows closed, turn off air conditioning and keep air vents closed."

Was there an explosion?

Social media users flooded the internet with footage of the incident, which showed thick black smoke covering the sky.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
