A MAN punched and kicked his teenage daughter before stabbing another man who came to her aid.

The man, who cannot be named due to legal reasons, had been within a property in Burndyke Court in Govan at around 9.30pm on April 23, 2023.

He had been drinking alcohol for most of the day before falling asleep on the couch.

His daughter was also within the property at this time.

The man then woke up and went into the kitchen. On returning from the kitchen he was involved in a short argument with his daughter.

He then left the property.

A short time later his daughter also left the property.

The teenager headed along Govan Road and around 20 minutes later saw her father outside of Burndyke Court.

The man approached his daughter and started to speak to her.

At this time a neighbour heard a disturbance outside and looked out of a window.

They saw the man punch and kick his daughter causing her to fall to the ground.

Another man asked him to stop hitting the young girl and attempted to intervene.

The other man managed to get the teenager to her feet.

However, her father struck him several times with a bladed implement causing a six-inch superficial wound and ripping his jacket.

The other man managed to get away and entered a house nearby. He then contacted police.

The father was arrested and taken to Cathcart police office where he was cautioned and charged and made no reply.

He appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court for sentencing on June 26 after pleading guilty to two charges.

The first was assaulting his daughter by punching and kicking her on the head and body causing her to fall to the ground.

He also admitted to assaulting a man by repeatedly striking him on the body with an open razor or similar bladed implement.

His lawyer told the court that her client had experienced trauma in childhood.

The defence solicitor said: “He has never had any sort of grief counselling for the trauma he suffered.

"He did it himself. He has done this by consuming alcohol.”

Sheriff Jonathan Guy sentenced the man to one year of supervision with a conduct requirement to engage with alcohol services.

He was also ordered to carry out 162 hours of unpaid work.
