THOUSANDS of people have taken to the streets of Glasgow for the Orange Order annual Boyne parade.

Around fifty parades left communities in the north, south, east, and west of the city on Saturday morning before merging at George Square in the city centre.

From here they will head to Glasgow Green for the annual County Grand Orange Lodge of Glasgow Boyne celebration.

Lodges and bands gathered as early as 8.30am at their individual start points before marching to join others.  

Around 3500 people are expected to be taking part with many more following along the route.

The parades are due to leave Glasgow Green at around 1.45pm before heading back to their start points across the city.

Glasgow City Council confirmed that almost 30 road closures are in place.

These will remain in place between 5am and 4pm on Saturday to allow the processions to take place.
