A Scottish bus operator that runs the nightbus service in Glasgow has been shortlisted for three UK National Transport Awards.

McGill’s Bus Group, recognised as the nation's largest independent bus company, is vying for prestigious awards including UK Bus Operator of the Year and for its significant contribution to Net Zero targets, by being shortlisted for the Exemplary Contribution to Net Zero category.

In addition, the company's innovative Glasgow nightbus service is up for the Best Bus Service award.

McGill's took over the Glasgow nightbus routes when First Glasgow, the existing operator, temporarily decided to withdraw its services.

Since its introduction in August 2023, McGill's nightbus has gained popularity with passengers, earning them the national award nomination.

Chairman of McGill's Group James Easdale expressed his joy at the nominations.

Mr Easdale said: "It is an exceptional achievement to be nominated at a UK level and to be in the running for three awards is terrific."

Highlighting the company's service quality, Mr Easdale added: "We're absolutely delighted to be nominated for UK Bus Operator of the Year once again.

"This nomination highlights that McGill’s are delivering a service that is at the very top in comparison to many other cities and towns across the UK."

He further commented on the nomination for the Glasgow nightbus service, saying: "A nomination for our new nightbus network as Best Bus Service is also hugely pleasing.

"The team worked hard to get the service up and running in a short timeframe and is has been very well received by passengers."

Mr Easdale acknowledged McGill's commitment to environmental sustainability and firm growth.

He reiterated the company's dedication to providing top-tier services while prioritising the environment.

He said: "McGill’s Group is dedicated to providing top-tier service for our passengers while prioritising environmental sustainability.

"We strive to lead the way in public transport innovation, with investment of more than £50million in zero emission electric buses, and being acknowledged at the UK National Transport Awards is a testament to our efforts."

The winners of the National Transport Awards 2024 will be announced in London on October 3, 2024.
