A Glasgow man brought a bottle of Buckfast to the top of Mount Fuji.

Tariq Sattar took the tonic wine to the top of the active volcano in Japan to show his appreciation for the beverage.

The 31-year-old, from Knightswood, spent seven hours climbing the sacred mountain near Toyko to share the legendary view with the iconic green bottle.

Tariq said: “My first day in Japan was to climb Mount Fuji, I thought this is something no one else will do or even think about doing.

“I brought a little bit of Glasgow to the summit, and got a great photo for Instagram and my friends.

“I had to drink it in Glasgow just to save weight for the suitcase, so I took a finished bottle all the way to Japan.

“In hindsight with how tough the climb was I wish I could have had a celebratory drink.

“Buckfast is like a staple of Glasgow when it comes to a night out, so whenever we go out for a fun night out Bucky always appears and just adds to the experience.”

Tariq is such a big Buckfast fan he has dedicated his social media page to finding rogue bottles across Glasgow.

His Instagram page, leavenobuckybehind, has been capturing the famous bottle "in the wild" with images showing it dotted around the city.

Now he has decided to venture even further by taking his own bottle 5,700 miles away on holiday.

He explained: “It started off as a joke. I have an Instagram called Leavenobuckybehind where I take photos of bucky bottles all around Glasgow that are on the streets.

“It is funny that anywhere you go you'll more than likely find one in the wild.

“My friend had the idea to make it so I started documenting all the bottles I could find.

“Then I joked about doing the same around Japan, then I thought why not? Let's do it!”

Tariq visited Japan over Easter and instantly fell in love with it, inspiring him to return in summer.

Now he has plans to move there and start teaching, but said he will be relying on good friends in Glasgow to send over some Buckfast care packages.
